something's bothering me!

Zero dimensional is just any given point any where.
One dimensional is a line that goes on for infinity. Or I'll just say infinity for short.
Two dimensional is a geometric shape that has no thickness but is a  shape, such as, semicircles.
Three dimensional  is an object that "takes up space". Everything in the Universe is 3D
Four dimensional is simply, time.
So, what's bothering me?
Clue: It has to do with the above words.
Answer: I can't imagine how something's thickness can be zero.
I could'nt get it out of my mind so I just blogged it.

  1. James,
What bothers me is a line that goes on to infinity - it never ever ever ends.
    What is botherin you?

  2. Math makes my brain hurt, Maybe I should have put you on my shoulder as a little baby in 2000 when I took my ACT, I could have done much better on the math section.

  3. I think it is 2- D bothering you. I never really thought about it before but it is a little boggling.

I'm still hung up on that batter mess. Maybe it was the fermented batter smell that got your mind spinning.

p.s. I don't think 4-D or time is "simple" like you stated. Maybe you can explain in another post

  4. James,

Uncle Rick just explained to me about Zero and what you are referring to.......I agree with you, does not seem to make sense. Uncle Rick is going to give you his response.

I am very excited about your blog, congratulations, keep it up!

  5. James that kind of stuff sometimes bothers me too.

In school, they say a line in geometry is like a line you draw with a pencil on a piece of paper; and that a plane is like a piece of paper. But the line you draw has thickness and the piece of paper has some thickness.

So to avoid getting bothered by stuff like that I would say to myself "well, sometimes math is just a game of make-believe."

Imagine the following crazy idea: "What if the moon were actually made of cheese?" You know it's not, but for the fun of it you imagine that it is. And then once you imagine that you consider all the consequences of the thing that you imagined -- like if the moon were made of cheese and you put a bunch of mice on the moon they would keep eating the moon and then they would get really fat and the moon would get smaller and smaller.

Math is like that. You imagine different concepts that don't actually exist in the real world, and then you consider what the implications of those concepts would be.

  6. Well Thinker, OI get bothered also.

What about that fourth dimension, time.

In our lives time is two dimensional like a line between two points. it has a starting and an end point. It is linear. It is progressive.

But what if time outside of our understanding was like a sphere without a beginning and end point. That you could go back and look to the future.. I think time might be manipulated if we knew how.

That is what I wonder about.

  7. Opa,

Time cannot be 3D as you said but it cannot be 2D because otherwise you can go back and forth through time.
